Benefits of Mangosteens

Known for its deep purplish color, it may seem to be small fruit with little edible parts but is actually a superfruit with many benefits. Believed to have originated from the Sunda Islands in Indonesia, it is grown mainly in East Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines and Taiwan. The soil and climate of the USA are not suitable for the cultivation of this fruit. The tree takes about 7 to 9 years to bear fruit.

The fruit is high in antioxidant and contains xanthone, a compound rarely found in other fruits. Xanthone helps to neutralize free radicals, maintain intestinal health and support cartilage and joint function. Studies have shown that mangosteen can significantly slow the growth of colon, prostate and skin cancer.

This super fruit contains some of the most potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal compounds in nature.containing potent natural compounds like  polysaccharides, catechins, stilbenes, quinones, and polyphenols.

The fruit is not easily available in the US and Europe as it is commonly grown in South East Asian countries and the  juice in bottled form is expensive.  You can alternatively buy mangosteen capsules to get the high antioxidant benefits of the fruit in convenient form.
