难忘的初恋情人 (Teresa Teng) with Hokkien Lyrics (歌词) and English Translation

难忘的初恋情人 (台语歌词) Lyrics and English Translation - Teresa TengOne of Teresa Teng’s (邓丽君) early Hokkien folk love song sung in the Taiwanese dialect (闽南语). The beginning music never fails to melt my heart. For those whose first love did not work out and still keep memories of the first love in the heart, this song would evoke fond or bitter sweet memories. There is the Mandarin version of this song by Teresa Teng but the Hokkien version is more tender.

The lyrics expresses a woman’s anguish and tender obsession with her first love that she cannot forget, a love that didn’t bring them together in the end.

Lyrics:

Unforgettable First Love (难忘的初恋情人)

Oh, my unforgettable first love
My heart is filled with thoughts of you
Although we are not fated to be together
I still keep thinking of you
Although it's hard for us to become a pair
Still I love only you
Bursts of cold winds blows nothing else
But blows up memories of you
My unforgettable first love

Oh, my unforgettable first love
The moonlight shines through my window
It shines on my heart
It reflects my lovesickness
Dreams of my first love
With no head or tail, it becomes empty
The passionate moon shines on nothing else
It only shines on you
My unforgettable first love

Oh, my unforgettable first love
My faraway beautiful dream
A lonely picture, a lonely person
This is my heart's obsession
Oh, dreams of my first love
The whole day, my heart is in a mess
Not sure if it is real or if it is a dream
Nonetheless, it makes me smile with teary eyes
My unforgettable first love…..
My unforgettable first love

雨夜花 Hokkien Lyrics (歌词) and English Translation

雨夜花 Hokkien lyrics and English translation雨夜花, translated as Rainy Night Flower, is a Taiwaneese Hokkien folk love song composed by Teng Yu-hsien, a Hakka Taiwanese musician, and written by Chou Tien-wang. Another well-known Taiwanese Hokkien folk song  望春風  is also composed by Teng Yu-hsien.

The lyrics of  雨夜花 describes the anguish of a woman who compares her broken love to the broken flower (a thing of beauty) that has fallen to the ground on a rainy night, and its beauty destroyed, just like her lost love.

In the lyrics, a heart-broken woman expresses her torment due to an ill-fated romance by alluding to the shattered flowers on the ground on a rainy night. The destruction of the flowers is blamed on the unsympathetic wind and rain (cruel nature) which broke the blooming flowers off the tree of life. Just like the fallen flowers, the woman's bright future in romance is ruined by cruel fate (wind and rain – nature that cannot be controlled), ending in a dispairing and hopless situation; like the dying flowers on the wet ground, never to come to life again.

English translation/ English lyrics
Rainy Night Flowers/ Flowers in the Rainy Night (雨  夜 花)

Flowers of the rainy night,
Blown to the ground by the wind and rain
There is no one to feel my daily grief
Just like the flowers on the ground, never to revive

The heartless wind,
It does not care about my future
It has no pity on my soft heart
It took away the brightness of my future

The flowers that dropped to the ground,
Who wants to care about them?
The heartless wind and rain ruin my future (dropped flowers cannot blossom anymore)
What else can I do when the flowers are dying on the ground?

The rain drops that keep falling,
They drown me in a pond of suffering
The flowers, breaking off from the leaves and branches,
Will never be seen again
