雨夜花 Hokkien Lyrics and English Translation

雨夜花 Hokkien lyrics and English translation雨夜花, translated as Rainy Night Flower, is a Taiwaneese Hokkien folk love song composed by Teng Yu-hsien, a Hakka Taiwanese musician, and written by Chou Tien-wang. The lyrics described the torment of a broken flower (broken love) that has dropped to the ground during a rainy night.

In the lyrics, a heart-broken woman expresses her anguish due to an ill-fated romance by alluding to the shattered flowers on the ground on a rainy night. The destruction of the flowers is blamed on the unsympathetic wind and rain (cruel nature) which broke the blooming flowers off the tree of life. Just like the fallen flowers, the woman's bright future in romance is ruined by cruel fate (wind and rain – nature that cannot be controlled), ending in a dispairing and hopless situation; like the dying flowers on the wet ground, never to come to life again.

English translation/ English lyrics
Rainy Night Flowers/ Flowers in the Rainy Night (雨  夜 花)

Flowers of the rainy night,
Blown to the ground by the wind and rain
There is no one to feel my daily grief
Just like the flowers on the ground, never to revive

The heartless wind,
It does not care about my future
It has no pity on my soft heart
It took away the brightness of my future

The flowers that dropped to the ground,
Who wants to care about them?
The heartless wind and rain ruin my future (dropped flowers cannot blossom anymore)
What else can I do when the flowers are dying on the ground?

The rain drops that keep falling,
They drown me in a pond of suffering
The flowers, breaking off from the leaves and branches,
Will never be seen again
