Florida Fort Lauderdale Airport Shooting

A lone gunman shot dead five people at the baggage claim area in Terminal 2 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, , at about 1300 hours local time on Friday afternoon, 6 January. Eight other people were injured in the shooting with gunshot and other wounds. The shooter walked along the baggage carousals and shot at people as they run and tried to hide. The gumman surrendered to police after he appeared to have run out of ammunition. He has been identified as Esteban Santiago, age 26, who had once served in Iraq in the National Guard for 10 months and was later discharged for unsatisfactory performance.
