Mangoes are high in fibre and in antioxidant content and are rich in vitamins A and C. They also contain vitamin B6, calcium and copper. African Mango Seed Extract
Also called irvingia gabonensis but commonly known as African mango, this is a fruit grown in central western African countries such as Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda. The flesh of the fruit is sweet and contains vitamin C, calcium, iron, protein, phosphorus and carbohydrates.
However, extracts from the seed of the fruit has been reported to contain weightloss benefits. Clinical tests on animals had showed that it is able to prevent the development of fatty cells.
The seed is high in high soluble fibre, magnesium, iron and potassium. It also contains ellagic acid, a natural phenol antioxidant found in numerous fruits and vegetables which possesses anticancer properties. It has the ability to inhibit mutations within a cell’s DNA and cause the death of cancer cells.
Research carried out in 2005 revealed that participants using the African mango seed extracts showed significant improvements in weight loss compared to a group taking a placebo. Further tests in 2008 and 2009 also revealed positive improvements in weightloss compared to those taking a placebo.
Improvements in blood cholesterol levels, blood pressure and blood glucose levels were also noted during these tests. In regions where the fruit is consumed as a staple food, it is noted that there is a low rate of heart diseases. Due to these findings, African mango seed extract have become popular as weight loss supplements.
